DBI2 Training Week: Fostering Collaboration and Skill Development in Neuroscience and Neurotechnology
DBI2 empowers junior researchers with a comprehensive, hands-on training programme.
[Nijmegen, May 7, 2024] The DBI2 (Dutch Brain Interface Initiative), a neuroscience research project, which unites eight research institutes across the Netherlands, has just concluded its first-ever Training Week, held from April 29 to May 2. Attended by 23 postdoctoral researchers and PhD candidates from the DBI2 consortium, the event was organised by these same junior researchers to foster peer-to-peer learning. Participants led a diverse range of lectures and workshops tailored to their expertise, resulting in a powerful exchange of knowledge and skills.
The topics covered during the Training Week included:
- Electrophysiology
- Neuroanatomy
- Electronic Interfaces
- Electronic circuits
- Python programming for neuroscience and deep learning
The training week culminated in a hackathon on Day 4, where the participants were divided into four teams to tackle the challenge of designing an EEG-oriented BCI for use in a real-time application: a pong tournament. This exercise emphasised the creative and analytical skills central to neuroscience, offering researchers a unique opportunity to collaborate on solutions by combining their diverse expertise.
The success of the Training Week underscores the potential of the DBI2 programme as a cradle for a cohesive Dutch neuroscience school, uniting researchers to advance knowledge through cooperation.
